How to remove pet hair from a couch

Loose pet hair on a sofa is usually sitting on the surface or caught in seams. A vacuum still helps for a deeper clean. A compact manual tool is for the in-between pass: after a nap, before guests, or when you do not want to pull out a larger appliance.

What this works on

Use a reusable pet hair remover on compatible upholstery: sturdy woven sofa fabric, many cotton or polyester covers, and dense pet bedding that does not pill easily. Always test a hidden area first. Stop if fibers pull, pill, change sheen, or transfer color.

Do not use it on leather, silk, delicate knits, or loosely woven fabric. Those surfaces can snag or show marks. If the sofa has a mix of materials, treat only the compatible panels.

A practical couch routine

1. Remove toys, blankets, and cushions so you can see the seats and back.
2. Pass the outer brush in one direction with light pressure. Short strokes usually gather more hair than scrubbing.
3. Use the nested detailing insert along seams, zipper lines, and the crease where the cushion meets the frame.
4. Lift the collected hair off the tool by hand and drop it in the trash. Do not wash the tool until it is fully cleared.
5. Put the insert back inside the outer brush so both parts stay together.

Common mistakes

• Pressing hard. Extra pressure can distort fabric and does not mean more hair is collected.
• Skipping the hidden-area test on a new cover or after a wash.
